• Performance in sports, especially of the competitive variety, is an important and powerful index of social as well as individual development in all countries including our own. Sports bring out the best in disciplined human behavior, as they demand the highest order of physical fitness, mental resolve and strength of character all blended admirably with a fighting yet noble spirit. Each form of sport has its own uniqueness in this regard and it is all the more pronounced in women’s sports which we have tried to highlight this time. It is a given that women have to fight doubly hard against not only physical constraints but also social taboos and counter-pulls, making their achievements all the more laudable. Wockhardt Foundation takes pleasure in celebrating this spirit of disciplined competitiveness with these awards.
